IBM's CEO, Samuel Palmisano, talked about how technology can turn around the economy on a link from a tech news blog. He specifically talked about technological applications with infrastructure, traffic patterns, electrical grids - all relevant to transportation. What was impressive was the fact that 67% of electrical power is lost due to inefficient grid management.

I used color flickr and found this shot attractive. I like the composition, the different textures, and the pinpoints of light green against the red, orange and pink petals.

001_1 U of R Reunion Weekend

This is a photo I took from the shuttle bus on the way to campus to show the beautiful fall colors: bright blue sky, white cottony clouds, green grass with splashes of red and gold leaves below maple trees.

Reunion Weekend

Just had a fabulous weekend at my Alma Mater, University of Rochester (NY). Not only did more than 70 class members show up but also great program speakers: Anderson Cooper and Stephen Colbert. When I wasn't catching up with old friends, I was walking around campus in the cool, fall weather with tree colors all around. Some of the program highlights in addition to the two mentioned, were a session on New York State cheeses complete with samples, another on Darwinism by Allen H. Orr, award winning evolutionary biologist, and a great panel discussion with classmates on retirement: how to plan, what works, what doesn't, etc. Given the current economic times, it was quite interesting and helpful.
